The Revolution knows that you work hard for your money and that testing new hunting and fishing gear in the lobby of your local Cabela's just doesn’t cut it when it comes time to drop some coin. So Jim, Trav and Mrs. Bunny, each week, put the industry's best new outdoor products to the test as they rank them in their Buy or Bust segment. They aren't in to cheap gimmicks, they don't care about what's sexy, they just want dependable gear at reasonable price and nothing else.
We aren’t optical engineers, we don’t design binoculars and we certainly don’t pretend to understand all the nuances of binocular construction and operation. However, what we lack in technical expertise, we make up for in field testing. We have been able to look through and use fantastic binoculars that elevated our hunting experience, but we have also struggled with the frustration of subpar glass and its shortcomings in the field. Chances are you have, too.
There are roughly 11.5 million hunters in the United States, 33 percent of those hunt with some kind of bow. Of those that hunt with a bow, 75% say they also use rifles. While firearms are still the predominant weapon of choice when hunters go afield, more and more people gravitate toward archery equipment all the time. Longer hunting seasons, increased challenge, getting up close to the animals you are hunting - there are a lot of reasons hunters choose to pick up a stick and string. By diversifying their hunting skill set and becoming proficient with more than one weapon, hunters can take advantage of every season possible, and with that comes the increased probability of filling tags.
On this week’s installment of Buy or Bust, we’re talking comfort in the great outdoors with the Cabela's 500 Series Deluxe Folding Hunting Chair.
Hunting gear doesn’t have to be ground breaking in new technology to be worth your investment, it just needs to work. In truth, it’s often simplicity that wins out and that’s definitely the case on this installment of Buy or Bust where we are talking dry bags - the Cabela’s Boundary Waters Roll-Top Dry Bags.
Hey turkey hunters, spring is almost here, is your gobbler gear ready? A lot of hunters across the country rely on the concealment of ground blinds in their quest for fans, spurs and beards. There are a lot of different options out there with various sizes, shapes, styles and prices. However, if you are looking for a spacious, durable, easy one-man setup blind, then definitely check out the Pursuit Hub Ground Blind from RedHead.
Although old Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow and predicted an early spring, that doesn’t mean winter is over yet. In general, it’s probably a bad idea to take your weather cues from a rodent as Mother Nature will probably overrule the groundhog’s verdict and catch you with your pants down, completely unprepared for the blistering cold.
I have mixed feelings about the saying, “You get what you pay for.” In some instances this is absolutely true. Take taxidermy for example, cut corners and hire a pseudo professional and the whitetail deer you initially dropped off might end up looking like the love child of the mythical jackalope and a wolverine. Money spent on a good taxidermist to preserve your animals is well worth the investment. However, when it comes to good gear it can be trickier to decide if a higher price tag actually means a better product. Does the $350 cooler really outperform the $100 cooler? Does the $900 bow shooter any faster, quieter or better than the $400 value-priced bow? For the sake of this discussion, does the $250 hunting pack really hold your stuff any better than the $50 option?
In the world of archery today, the truth is that hunters are likely dropping a substantial amount of cash on their bow setup. Spending more than $1,000 is not uncommon, so if you are going to make that kind of investment it stands to reason you should protect it.
We’re only a third of the way through winter and that means there is plenty of cold, wet, nasty weather ahead. Going out in the snow, ice, mud and muck in a run of the mill pair of sneakers is ill advised, your feet might as well be naked. Having good footwear to take you through the winter and the wet parts of spring is important. Good footwear is the foundation to an enjoyable time outdoors and rubber boots are ideal for pounding the sloppy conditions. That’s why on this edition of Buy or Bust we’re talking Dryshod® Men's Insight XT TrueTimber® Waterproof Hunting Boots, a Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's Exclusive!
With a lot of hunting seasons winding down, that means a lot of hunting gear is sitting idle in the closet. It’s time to pack up your seasonal gear and store it. That’s why on this installment of Buy or Bust we’re checking out the Plano® Sportsmans Trunk and other Plano Trunks and Tubs. Properly storing your gear in the offseason ensures that it won’t be damaged during the next several months so it’s ready to go as soon as you pull it out. Camo, backpacks, tents, optics, ammo, calls and more - hunting gear can be expensive so having an offseason home for it protects your investment.
